Flipje, the cheerful little fruit character, has been the mascot of the jam factory “De Betuwe” in Tiel since 1935. This joyful figure appears in countless booklets and games that were given away with jars of jam. 🍓 The adventures of Flipje were printed on long, narrow “film strips”, illustrated by Eelco Martinus ten Harmsen van der Beek and his daughter Fritzi. These strips could be cut in half and stored in an elongated album with an orange cover (1940) or a blue cover (1948). Between 1936 and 1955, no fewer than 376 film strips were published! 🎞️ Accompanying these film strips was the “Flipposcope”: a small cardboard cinema that children could assemble themselves from a cut-out sheet. It was first released in blue (1936) and later in red (1948), and in the 1940s it was, for many children, the most wonderful toy they owned. In this video, we present a copy that was purchased at an auction in 2019 and is now preserved in the KB. #collection #kb #theflipposcoop #cinema #books
