De boeken bestaan uit acht pagina’s tekst en acht paginagrote platen waarvan vier platen aan drie zijden overslaande flappen hebben. De flappen kunnen geopend worden om telkens een nieuw gedeelte toe te voegen aan de scène. Pedagoge Elise van Calcar (1822-1904) heeft de teksten geschreven.
